I aim to be a "great" piano or keyboard teacher for all of my students.
I relate and teach to each student's level of understanding and ability. I put students at ease, promote success, and prevent anyone from becoming overwhelmed or discouraged. I strive to "inspire" all of my students to be the best musician they can be.
My "keys" (besides the black & white ones) to teaching my students to play the piano or keyboard are providing lessons that are both easily understandable and very enjoyable.
Learning any complex skill is easier when the teacher explains and demonstrates clearly AND when the student is enjoying the experience. I have had great success in continuing students coming from group lessons and in restarting students who have not had a completely satisfactory private lesson experience elsewhere.
While my teaching style is relaxed and pleasant, my lessons are efficient and productive.
We get through a significant amount of material at every session. I create a fun (and sometimes "pun") learning atmosphere where students feel able to succeed from the very first lesson.
Each student's piano or keyboard lessons are personally individualized.
No two students are alike, and all of my students are working on different programs, not following a single rote teaching formula. Different books and supplementary materials are used depending on the student's interests, any previous training, and individual ability. Piano students and keyboard students may have different goals, which I address. Or, any student can learn to play both instruments!
I have personally selected the best teaching materials for the fun and ease of learning that they provide.
Students can also bring books or materials that they already have begun if they are coming from a previous teaching situation. Or, we can start fresh with new material if a previous experience has not been completely satisfactory.
My basic curriculum for beginning students includes piano or keyboard fundamentals, piece performance, playing technic, and music theory.
Intermediate students continue those studies while adding different music styles according to each student's interest: Classical, Jazz, Rock, Popular, Ragtime, Show Tunes, R&B, and many others. Improvisation and sight reading skills are also emphasized. Students are encouraged to play songs that they have selected and that they are really interested in learning. Individual student input keeps motivation and interest high.
A FREE Introductory Lesson allows me to evaluate each student, their interests, and the material that might work best for that student.
It is an opportunity for prospective students and parents to check me out as well. To date, every complimentary lesson that I have offered has been followed by enrollment of the student!
